Mark Zuckerberg has created a light-up wooden box that he says helps his wife sleep without feeling the need to check her phone for the time.
The new invention, nicknamed the “sleep box”, sits on a bedside table and glows between the hours of 6 and 7am.
This feature lets his wife Priscilla Chan know when it is time to wake their two children up, but doesn’t glow too brightly to disturb her if she is still asleep.
“So far this has worked better than I expected,” Mr Zuckerberg wrote in a post to Instagram.
The 34-year-old Facebook founder detailed his spouse’s “time stresses” when waking up in the middle of the night to check her phone, and being unable to go back to sleep.
He added: “Since [the sleep box] doesn’t show the time, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, she knows to just go back to sleep without having to worry about what time it is”.
Mr Zuckerberg said as an engineer he couldn’t think of a better way to express his “love and gratitude” toward his spouse.
He posted a picture of the invention on his Instagram page for “another entrepreneur” who could take his idea further.
Many replies to the post congratulated the “incredible” and “romantic” idea, however several people were less impressed, suggesting the billionaire use an alarm instead.
