Destiny 2 Xur location and items, Feb. 8-11

If you played Destiny, you may be familiar with Xur, the weekly Exotic item merchant. In Destiny 2, he’s back, and he now appears all over the map. This week, he’s in the Tower. You can find Xur hanging out in the hangar behind the Dead Orbit vendor.

Destiny 2 Xur Tower Bungie/Activision

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Skyburner’s Oath, exotic scout rifle: 29 Legendary Shards
  • The Dragon’s Shadow, Hunter chest: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Wormgod Caress, Titan gauntlets: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Sunbracers, Warlock gauntlets: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Isochronal Engram: 97 Legendary Shards

Xur’s inventory caps out at 631 if you’re at 650 power. He also offers specific rolls on each armor piece each week, giving out different perks for the same pieces. We’ve highlighted any great rolls below.

Skyburner’s Oath

The Skyburner’s Oath is a scout rifle modeled after the Cabal’s slug rifle. Its first exotic perk is Slug Rifle, which causes the gun to deal Solar damage and become more powerful when you’re aiming down its sights. The recent exotic update improved these slugs to act more like explosive grenades when being quick-fired. The second exotic perk is For the Empire. This perk makes the gun fully automatic, deal extra damage to Cabal enemies and, most importantly, penetrate the shields of Phalanx enemies.

All of the perks around Skyburner’s Oath make it sound fantastic. While it used to be fairly mediocre, the recent update makes it useful in some situations at best and fun at worst. If you haven’t gotten Skyburner’s Oath yet, it’s definitely worth picking up from Xur.

The Dragon’s Shadow

In terms of Hunter exotics, Dragon’s Shadow is only decent. Its exotic perk, Wraithmetal Mail, will reload all of the Hunter’s weapons when they dodge, which also increases movement and handling speed for a brief time after. This bonus is mostly valuable in PvP. However, Hunters already have Foetracer and other excellent PvP exotics to take. If you’re a hardcore PvP player or find yourself caught 2v1s frequently, pick this up. If none of that applies to you, skip it.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Unflinching bow aim, unflinching fusion rifle aim, unflinching kinetic aim

Slot 2: Scout rifle reserves, special ammo finder

This roll is fine — although unflinching kinetic is universally useful. Unfortunately, even if you take this into the Crucible, where this exotic is designed to shine, this roll will only add so much to your game. If you already use Dragon’s Shadow in your Crucible rotation, consider picking this up. But this roll isn’t a reason to start using this exotic.

Wormgod Caress

This is actually a campaign exotic from Warmind, so almost everyone should have it, as long as they’ve beaten Xol with a Titan. Its exotic perk is Burning Fists, which causes melee kills to increase melee damage for a period of time. This effect’s duration is extended for each melee kill.

These gauntlets are fine if you enjoy playing up close. But when the Synthoceps exotic exists, it’s difficult to think of a time where you would use these instead.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Fusion rifle loader, hand cannon loader, impact induction (melee damage reduces grenade cooldown)

Slot 2: Sniper rifle scavenger, machine gun scavenger

Hand cannon targeting is great for a lot of players, as is Impact Induction. Machine guns are also really powerful right now, which makes machine gun reserves pretty potent. This exotic isn’t too great in most situations, but the roll is decent enough that you should pick it up if you’re a Titan fan.

Sunbracers

Sunbracers are powerful Warlock exotics for the Solar subclasses. Their exotic perk is Helium Spirals, which increases the duration of solar grenades. Melee kills also grant unlimited solar grenades for a brief time. These gauntlets are extremely fun to use and can be pretty powerful in wave-based modes like Escalation Protocol — when grinding for Hive or solar kills — or the weekly Nightfall.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Fusion rifle loader, hand cannon loader, impact induction (melee damage reduces grenade cooldown)

Slot 2: Sniper rifle scavenger, machine gun scavenger

This is a good roll on a decent Warlock exotic. Hand cannons are very popular and machine guns are useful in most situations. For the situations you’d want to use this exotic in, these perks can be pretty great. Consider grabbing this week’s roll.
